About Joe Anne Wiser, MSW, RSW
When Joe Anne is asked why she decided to become a clinical social worker, she will state without hesitation that since her childhood she has been passionately drawn to helping others and being with them through their various struggles in life. Joe Anne grew up in a small rural community in New Brunswick. These years were informative and helped to shape her own personal and professional values that impact how she approaches her therapeutic work- that of kindness, enduring spirit of human endurance, empathy, and hope for those experiencing great pain, suffering and change in their lives. In 2005, after changes in Joe Anne’s life, she moved from New Brunswick to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, to begin another chapter in her life, both personally and professionally. She calls this ocean-bordered community her home base and feels those deeper connections to this community, the people and culture.
Education
Joe Anne completed her Bachelor of Arts degree, having majored in psychology and sociology, as well as gerontology, in May of 2001 from St. Thomas University (STU) in Fredericton, NB. She then entered the profession of social work and completed her post-degree in social work from STU in 2002. In 2007, Joe Anne completed her Masters in Social Work from the School of Social Work, Dalhousie University, with a concentration in Community Mental Health and Palliative Care.

She has continued to practice privately on a part-time basis while working as a clinician with the public mental health and addiction system. Joe Anne has worked within the fields of Addictions and Mental Health now for over 20 years, having extensive experience and training in screening, assessment, and treatment of adults affected by substance use and mental health disorders.
